The first non-white player was Wataru Misaka, who debuted in 1947 as the first player of Asian descent to play in the league. African American players first appeared in 1950, with the Chuck Cooper, Nat “Sweetwater” Clifton, and Earl Lloyd. By 2011 The Institue of Diversity and Ethics in Sports reported that 83% of all NBA players were men of color with 17% white players.
